Aboriginal Youth SafeHouse

Location: 1618 East Hastings
Ages: 16 – 18

 

Voluntary, short-term, live-in program for youth of all backgrounds who do not have a safe place to stay. Youth workers will connect you to resources, help you with goal planning, and help you move on to safe, stable, long-term housing, with new connections to community resources for ongoing stability and support.

 

Referrals are accepted from youth or from service providers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Young Bears Lodge

Location: 1618 East Hastings
Ages: 13-18

 

Culturally based, holistic healing lodge for Indigenous youth looking to make changes to their relationship with drugs or alcohol. Live-in program with five spots for Indigenous youth of all genders. It is your choice to stay in the program for between one – four months. Youth can self-refer to the program, be referred by family, or by agencies within the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority region, as long as they are aware of and receptive to the referral.

Kinnections Mentorship

Location: 1618 East Hastings
Ages: 16-19

 

Matches Indigenous youth with trained volunteer mentors. To participate in this program, youth must be willing to commit to meeting the mentor for two to four hours per week for at least one year. Mentors are thoroughly screened and consistently undergoing training with topics such as life skills coaching, conflict resolution, mental health, healthy boundaries, prevention of sexual exploitation, cultural awareness, substance abuse/ misuse, and other important areas that may impact Indigenous youth. Your mentor can also provide support as you transition to living independently as an adult.

Indigenous Homeless Outreach Program​

We aim to reduce the number of Indigenous youth who are houseless by providing direct access to immediate housing support along with services to address the individual’s housing, health, and cultural needs. This program works within a continuum to provide services from emergency and imminent needs to self sufficiency. The program provides outreach services for street homeless, couch surfing, in care or who struggle with intermittent houselessness issues.

BC’s only 24/7/365, low-barrier service for youth. Youth experiencing homelessness, sleeping rough, or precariously housed can visit.

Youth Haven

Ages: 16-19

Five-bed house that offers emergency housing to high-risk youth. Our goal is to ensure youth with mental health and/or substance use issues are safe, receive the best possible care, and access the stabilisation, and recovery support services they need. Haven is a low-barrier program that welcomes youth who may face barriers elsewhere due to current substance use, pets, or other individual needs.

Youth Safehouse

Ages: 16-18

 

Nine-bed house that provides secure and stable emergency housing for at-risk youth. We work with youth to help them secure income assistance, mental health and substance use supports, find permanent housing, and get connected with other help they need. Youth Safehouse is an extremely low-barrier program: this means youth are always welcomed and supported, no matter what their condition.

The Link: Housing First

No Age Restriction

 

Supports young people from government care who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Access to housing and the continued development of youth can give local foster youth a platform for long term success. Services include trusted housing procurement worker for one-on-one support and guidance to help secure and maintain housing, rent subsidies, help with resumes, job searching, and employment programs. We also assist with emergency food and clothing, application help for income assistance and/or disability support, and access to a computer with Internet, printer, and telephone.
